Each Spring, thousands of migrating Tarpon arrive in the Florida Keys, where they pause before continuing on their Northward trek. In May and June, the Tarpon cruise the edges of the flats where they provide outstanding targets for a well presented fly or live bait. Cockroaches, Purple Bunnies and Raynor Runners are generally the preferred patterns. It is common to have "shots" at from 100 to 300 tarpon per day, to fish which average 60 to 90 lbs and are often found up to 150 lbs. 12 weight rods are most commonly used to cast the relatively large flies and to apply enough pressure to subdue these spectacular fish. For the spin fisherman, 15 to 20 lb test is used to allow accurate casting. After boating one of these Giants you'll be ready for more action. A Bonefish and a Permit will take care of that! |

A pod of rolling Tarpon silently move into casting range. The fly is presented, the lead fish inhales the offering, and now, IT'S SHOW TIME! Four spectacular leaps and a screaming 150 yard run later, you settle in for the long battle. After nearly two hours, you release the tired but unharmed Silver King to fight another day. |
