BONEFISH

Bonefish (9 lbs.)

THEY say,
"Bonefishing is Addictive"

THEY are right!

Flyfishing for Bonefish has become a Keys institution. Average size is 6 to 8 lbs, with many 10 to 12 pounders caught each year.

Available all year, best times are
March through mid November,
peaking in late summer and early fall.

Whatever time of year you choose, stay ready, because you never know when Tarpon or Permit may appear!

An 8 to 10 weight rod, WF floating line and 200 yards of backing is the ticket for these long running speedsters. Our favorite flies include Crazy Charlies, Bonecrusher Crabs or Copper Charlies, all tied on #2 or 4 hooks.

For those who perfer spin, we use 7 foot spin rods with 225 yards of 8 lb test, spooled on a reel with a super smooth drag. Either a live shrimp or a pink and white 1/8 oz. jig can be deadly.

Silver tails glisten in the morning sun as a school of Bonefish approach. A perfect cast, and 8 pounds of silver muscle takes flight at incredible speed. 15 minutes later you release a gamester who has shown the strength and spirit normally associated with a much larger foe.
