Split Bathroom Scene

Here's Ken's side of the bathroom.  He's obviously shaving as he is getting ready for the prom.   I've included lots of accesories that add to what I believed is a typical bathroom appearance of a male in a whirlwind hurrying to go out.  Truth be told, the female's bathroom was no better!

I used a Mattel made sink/counter unit. I spray painted the base black. I made towels and washclothes of various sizes by cutting apart and rehemming a yellow washcloth into appropriate sizes.

The foreground on the left shows a wicker laundry basket.  The clothes are wrinkled so it isn't clear whether the clothes are clean or not.  There's another pile of clothes next to the basket just tossed on the floor.  His tuxedo is laid in the right corner across a chair which isn't visible.  The trash can on the right was made from a 35 mm film canister with small shells glued to the top.

The flooring was constructed from a large thick piece of foam core board in which I used peel and stick laminate flooring.  This bathroom featured a black marble look.  The walls were constructed from a thinner piece of foam core board which was spray painted black. I used black faux fir pieces to cut into the shape of bathroom rugs.

I painted gold diamonds as a wall boarder and used black puff paint to add some dimension.  I cut out prints from an art catalog and framed them with wooden coffee stirrers.  The shower curtain is a two piece curtain. I cut apart a real shower curtain liner and punched holes across the top.  I then cut a piece of gold fabric and trimmed it with some black trim.  Atop the trim, I added gold grommets and suspended the shower curtain and liner from a drawer handle that I screwed into the foam core board wall. I used plastic shoe cording as shower curtain hooks.  I threw a towel over the top to add some realism.  There isn't room for a shower, but the gathers in the curtain hopefully added to the illusion I was trying to create.

The toilet was filled with water. I poured it in the competition room and added one drop of blue food coloring to the water.  The toilet cleaning brush was constructed from a toothpick and small piece of pipe cleaner.  The rolls of toilet paper were just cut and wound around a small cocktail straw  There's a roll of toilet paper on the holder, which was just tossed on the floor.

The top of the sink includes the typical accessories, such as a radio, cologne, toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream cup, shaving cream brush, and a bar of soap. I  took a straw and cut away a piece from a bar of glycerine soap which easily took a cookie cutter slice of soap, perfect for the top of the sink.
