Trick or Treat Image 2

Supplies:

  • small Kelly® or Kelly friend® doll
  • two - 4 ½" x 3" pieces of orange fabric (either dotted swiss, felt, or cotton)
  • two - 15" pieces of black 1/8" black ribbon
  • three small black triangles cut from black felt
  • one round circle cut from orange felt (I used a spool of thread for the circular pattern)
  • one small sliver cut from green felt
  • white thread
  • fabric glue
  • four cotton balls
  • needle
  • pins
  • safety pin
  • scissors
  • pinking sheers

View the pattern and print it for yourself.

Directions:
  1. Cut the pattern out using pinking sheers
  2. Cut 14 slits into the top and bottom of the fabric. Use the pattern markings as a guide. Cut about ¼" from the top of the fabric. Do the same about ¼ from the bottom of the fabric.
  3. Cut the black felt triangles.
  4. Cut the orange felt circle and the green felt sliver.
  5. Put the fabric pieces together right sides together. I usually pin the pieces together inside out.
  6. Sew up the two sides leaving an armhole on either side. You'll leave the armhole from ½" from the top all the way down to 1 ½" from the top. That will allow enough space for her arm to fit through.
  7. Use the fabric glue to glue the side seams open. This will allow an easier time to fit the doll's arm through the armhole.
  8. Turn the material right-side out.
  9. Use a safety pin to the end of one strand of the black ribbon. Beginning at the center minus one slit, run the black ribbon in and out of the slits until you come back around to the front. If done properly, you should be left with both ends on the outside of the outfit.
  10. Put the doll into the outfit. Once her arms are through the armholes, draw the ribbon shut and tie into a bow.
  11. Put the four cotton balls into the dress. Place one on the front, back and each side of the doll.
  12. Use the same safety pin and run the last piece of black ribbon through the bottom slits in the dress. Pull the drawstring shut around the dolls legs.
  13. Glue the black triangles onto the front stomach of the doll, in the pattern of two eyes and a nose.
  14. Cut a slit into the orange felt circle and place the green felt sliver into the slit. Glue together with the fabric glue.
  15. Use a straight pin to fasten the orange hat to the doll's head.
