Small Leather Goods Instruction
DIRECTIONS FOR SMALL LEATHER GOODS: DIRECTIONS FOR PURSE: Buy a leather purse. The older, the better. Try yard sales or flea markets. 25 cents to a dollar in price. Cut the leather away from the lining. Cut a strip about 3 inches long by 1 ½ inches wide. Run glue along the sides of the leather inside portion in a small thin line. About 2/3 of the bottom. Fold the bottom up 1/3 of the way. Let this dry. Cut small angle triangles from the top to make an envelope flap. Get an envelope to see this effect. I don't know if I have described it properly. Take a piece of small thin ribbon about 6 - 8 inches long and tie into a circle formation. Cut the tails off. At the bottom of the flap and where the pocket of the envelope meet run a string of glue. Put the ribbon circle along this glue line, this now will become the shoulder strap of the purse. Put a bead of glue under the purse flap and seal shut. You could also sew a snap or glue tiny piece of velcro to open and close purse at will. You can glue a bead or ribbon rose or button to the top of the purse flap as embellishment. DIRECTIONS FOR WALLET: Same as purse directions. Make the initial piece of leather about 1" by 1/8" and glue in the same envelope style. DIRECTIONS FOR CHECKBOOK AND COVER: Cut a piece of the leather 1" by ½". Fold in half. Cut a long strip of white computer, typing paper, whatever. Accordion pleat the paper to the size of the leather when folded in half. Put a piece of tape around the accordion pleat to keep it shut. Run glue all over the underside of the leather. Put the paper on one half of the leather and close the book. Hold firmly for a minute to secure. The Fabri-Tac glue works best on all the leather goods. Don't use Elmer's for these accessories. DIRECTIONS FOR ADDRESS BOOK: Same as checkbook. Cut leather into a piece 1" by 1". DIRECTIONS FOR DAYTIMER/AGENDA: Cut piece of leather 1" by 2". Fold leather in thirds. Cut strip of paper to 1" width. Accoridion pleat the paper and secure shut with a piece of scotch tape to hold it shut. Run glue along 2/3 of the underside of the leather. Put the paper accordion into the space. Close the flap and cut at an angle so as to look like a flap over the book. Glue the flap down. Looks like a large clutch. You can put a small bookmark of the same leather between the pages and/or use a small piece of ribbon or button or bead to look like a closure. |
