Rooms & Scenes

The Attic

The Attic

Here's the latest scene, created in November 1999.  It's an attic, filled to the brim with great elements of interest.  If I don't describe something that you have questions about, please e-mail me and I'll try to answer individually.

The best part of creating an attic or a basement scene is that it affords you the opportunity to showcase items in a different way than in a room with a recurring theme.  Here, nothing has to coordinate or belong together, just display the objects as you'd find them in any attic you enter today.

The Attic
Here you see Barbie packing a box full of toys.  She's holding a mock-up of a vintage Barbie box.  To view the directions, click HERE.

The box was created from a shoebox. I just measured a rectangle section of brown cardboard with four equal sections.  I did leave a small overlap on the side to seal the box sides.  There are flaps for the bottom and the top and a simple black marker to label the box.

Inside the box, I shreaded some newspaper to give the appearance as though she is packing the contents.  There are miniatures of Barbie furniture boxes from the 80's and a great Tickle Me Elmer box.  To view directions on making the Tickle Me Elmer, click HERE.

The sideboard to the right of the armoire was created for Sindy in the 70's or 80's.  This is actually a china cabinet, but the top separates from the bottom and in this scene, I have used it as a sideboard or console table.

On top of the sideboard are various bears.  I have found small bears at Kaybee Toys, Micheal's, Joann Fabrics, Ben Franklin Crafts and several dollhouse miniature shows.

There is a small clear crystal and goldtone princess telephone that is included in a recent desk accessories set.  To the right of the phone is a sewing machine, a magnet found at the Dollar Tree Store.  To the right is a small crystal mantle clock, again from the recent desk accessories set.

Here's Ken packing dishes from the dining room or kitchen.  He's packing them in a slightly taller box, also made from the same shoe box. I think the shoebox or other thin posterboard will work best as it is easier to score on an edge and fold without too much difficulty.

The dishes were found at various miniature shops, but any small playscale dishes would be fine.

In the foreground, is a lamp that evokes feelings from the seashore.  This was made by my friend, Val.

There are also some small empty goldtone and silvertone picture frames.  These were found at dollhouse miniature shows.
