Required Undergraduate Courses:

Environmental Systems 2: HVAC systems; electric lighting; fire protection; water/waste; and elevators. BSU: Taught 3 semesters (2007-2009). Undergraduate course.

Environmental Systems 1: thermal comfort; envelope analysis; passive heating/cooling; daylighting, resource efficiency. BSU: Taught 2 semesters (2008-2009). Undergraduate course.

Environmental Technology 2: mechanical systems concepts, components, and analysis methods (including thermal comfort, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and fire protection systems). FAMU: Taught 12 semesters (1990-2006).

Environmental Technology 3: architectural lighting and acoustic systems concepts, components and analysis methods; with an introduction to mechanized circulation and electrical systems. FAMU: Taught 11 semesters (1990-2006).

Design 3.1: third-year design studio with a focus on site, structure, form, materials, design intent. Taught 3 semesters (2001-2003).

Design 3.2: third-year design studio with a focus on urban context, structure, form, materials, design process. Taught 2 semesters (2002-2003); assisted 1 semester (2004).

Environmental Control Systems 2: lighting; acoustics; water, waste, and recycling. UofO: Co-taught 1 term (2000). Undergraduate/graduate course.

Environmental Control Systems 1: thermal comfort, envelope analysis, passive and active climate controls, energy efficiency. UofO: Co-taught 1 term (1999); solo-taught 1 term (2006). Undergraduate/graduate course.

Electric Lighting: a course in advanced electric lighting design for interior architecture students. UofO: one term (2000).

Studio Consultant: served as environmental controls "consultant" in fourth-year design studio; one day per week plus pin-up reviews. FAMU: 1993 and 1998.

Introduction to the Technology of Architecture: an introduction to technology in architectural design: environmental and structural forces and principles, material/assembly responses to forces; structural, environmental, and construction systems. FAMU: Co-taught 1 semester (1996).

Environmental Technology 1: an introduction to environmental technologies in architectural design: environmental forces, material/assembly responses to such forces, and environmental control systems. FAMU: Taught 4 semesters (1991-1994).

Architectural Computer Applications: an introduction to word-processing, spreadsheet, and computer graphics applications in architecture. FAMU: Taught 1 semester (1992).

Mechanical Systems: an introduction to the design and analysis of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and fire/smoke protection. UPM: Taught eleven semesters (1984-1990).

Acoustics and Illumination: an introduction to architectural acoustics and lighting systems (electric lighting and daylighting). UPM: Taught seven semesters (1985-1989).

Senior Thesis I & II: supervision of the preparation of a written thesis on a topic of individual interest involving some aspect of architectural engineering. UPM: Assigned nine semesters (1984-1989).

Introduction to Professional Practice: a studio course providing an introduction to construction documents -- working drawings, specifications, and contracts. UPM: Taught two semesters (1985-1986).

Basic Environmental Control Systems II: an introduction to building acoustics, electrical distribution, and lighting systems. Undergraduate course. OSU: Taught two semesters (1982-1984).

Basic Environmental Control Systems I: an introduction to building energy utilization, HVAC systems, plumbing, and fire/smoke protection. Undergraduate course. OSU: Taught six semesters (1979-1983).

Solar Engineering Applications and Buildings: an introduction to solar heating, cooling, and domestic hot water systems -- both passive and active. UPM: Taught one semester (1985).

Climatic Design of Buildings: analysis of climatic variables and their effect on building design, with special reference to Saudi Arabia. UPM: Taught one semester (1984).

Building Performance Case Studies: an elective course dealing with the development of case studies addressing various aspects of building performance. BSU: one semester (2009). Undergraduate/graduate course.

Net-Zero Energy/Carbon-Neutral Building Design: an elective course dealing with high-performance buildings. BSU: one semester (2009). Undergraduate/graduate course.

Building Performance Case Studies: an elective course dealing with the development of case studies addressing various aspects of building performance. UofO: one term (2006). Undergraduate/graduate course.

Studio Plus: an elective course allowing students to enhance the environmental responsiveness of an existing studio design project.  UofO: one term (2006). Undergraduate/graduate course.

Design Studio: elective design studio dealing with an Environmental Education Center with an emphasis on energy efficiency and green design issues. UofO: one term (2000).

Architectural Acoustics: an elective course focusing on the fundamentals and applications of room acoustics and noise control. UofO: one term (2000). Undergraduate/graduate course.

Design Studio: elective design studio with emphasis on lighting for a place of worship. UofO: one term (1999); studio coordinated with a second studio addressing the same problem.

Special Studies in Architecture: an elective course focusing on the development of case studies of existing building performance using the Vital Signs curriculum project approach. FAMU: Taught 3 semesters (1998, 1999, 2004).

Environmental Systems for High-Rise Buildings: analysis and design of systems within the context of a high-rise building project, including HVAC, plumbing, fire safety, acoustic, lighting, electrical, and vertical transportation systems. Graduate course. OSU: Taught five semesters (1977-1984).

HVAC Systems Analysis and Design: a detailed investigation into the design and analysis of HVAC systems. Graduate course. OSU: Taught six semesters (1978-1983).

Alternative Energy Systems: an introduction to energy utilization and conservation in buildings, and alternative approaches to providing such energy - including active and passive solar systems, wind power, earth sheltering, water power, etc. Graduate/undergraduate course. OSU: Taught seven semesters (1977-1983).

Design Synthesis Studio: research, conceptual and schematic design, and design development for a large-scale building type. Provided design support and criticism regarding building environmental control concerns. Graduate course. OSU: Assigned to studio four semesters (1979-1983).

Architectural Engineering Seminar: investigation of various topics of current interest - including professional registration, ethics, professional practice, solar energy systems, etc. Graduate course. OSU: Taught five semesters (1979-1983).

Comfort Analysis: investigation of issues pertaining to thermal, visual, acoustical, and spatial comfort. Graduate course. OSU: Taught one semester (1982).

Environmental Systems for Special Occupancies: specialized environmental control systems for occupancies such as computer rooms and earth shelters; smoke control and fire protection considerations; security systems. Graduate course. OSU: Taught one semester (1982).
