Faculty Trainer, Member Board of Advisors: Agents of Change, supported by the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education and conducted by the Department of Architecture, University of Oregon. Project involved the training and evaluation of training of graduate teaching assistants, with a focus on environmental technologies. August 2001-present. Faculty Trainer, Consultant: Agents of Change pilot project. August 2000-June 2001.

Co-Investigator: Florida Sustainable Communities Network, supported by Florida Department of Community Affairs. Project involved editorship of electronic journal (e design) on the World Wide Web (WWW), managing editorship of the Florida Design Initiative WWW sites, and diverse other duties. Florida A & M University. Approximately a half-time effort, January 1998-July 2000.

Co-Investigator: Florida Design Initiative 2, supported by Florida Energy Office, Florida Department of Community Affairs. Project involved coordination of energy-efficiency design activities between state building procurers, design professionals, and educational institutions. Responsibilities include technical editorship of print newsletter (e Design), editorship of electronic journal (e design Online) on the World Wide Web, coordination of Academic Partners Program, and diverse other duties. Florida A & M University. Approximately a half-time effort, July 1995-June 1998.

Co-Investigator: Florida Energy Update, supported by the Florida Department of Management Services. Project involved the updating and re-development of the State Energy Management Plan, Energy Tracking Database, and State Energy Conservation Manual, with adaptation to electronic dissemination methods. Approximately a half-time effort, July 1995-June 1998.

Co-Investigator: Model Building Codes Evaluation Project, supported by the Florida Housing Finance Agency. Project involved the analysis and comparison of four model codes used in the state of Florida in order to identify the potential for development of a single state-wide code. Approximately a quarter-time effort, 1995 calendar year.

Principal Investigator / Co-Author: HVAC Components and Systems module for the Vital Signs curriculum materials project (University of California Berkeley). Developed field exercise protocols and supporting background text and graphics for a self-contained resource module of the Vital Signs project, which encourages the use of existing buildings as laboratories for the study of energy-efficiency. Approximately a 10% effort for 1994-1995 academic year.

Liaison: Institute for Building Sciences, School of Architecture. Served as coordinator of the School's research office and programs during one-year absence of the Institute's Director. Florida A & M University. Approximately a quarter-time effort for 1993-1994 academic year.

Co-Investigator: Florida Design Initiative, supported by Florida Energy Office, Florida Department of Community Affairs. Project involved coordination of energy-efficiency design activities between state building procurers, design professionals, "model energy communities", and educational institutions. Florida A & M University. Full-time summer and approximately quarter-time academic-year commitment (1993-1995).

Co-Investigator: Development of a Large Building Radon-Resistant Construction Standard, supported by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Project involved the drafting of a construction standard for radon-resistance in non-residential buildings and coordination of review comments. Florida A & M University. Approximately one-eighth time for late fall and spring (1993-1994).

Consultant: The Impact of Technology on the Design of Educational Facilities, a 2-day conference and 2-hour teleconference funded by the Florida Department of Education. Responsibilities included identification and evaluation of potential speakers, literature review, and editing assistance for final report. Florida A & M University. Approximately one-eighth time spring and early summer (1993).

Co-Investigator: Assessment of Concrete Floor-Slab Crack-Frequency and Radon Flux, supported by Florida Department of Community Affairs. Project involved literature review, field measurements, questionnaire development, and data review to determine the importance of slab-on-grade cracks to radon influx in single family dwellings. Florida A & M University. Primarily summer commitment (1991-1992).

Principal Investigator: Thermal and Economic Performance of Insulation for Saudi Buildings study, supported by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Project involved analysis of building thermal insulations to develop recommendations for appropriate application to Saudi buildings, considering economics and construction practices. Required coordination of two co-investigators, consultants and research assistant. King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Approximately one-quarter time commitment (1987-1990).

Project Investigator: Center for Natural Energy Design project, supported by University Center for Energy Research, Oklahoma State University, via a competitive proposal review, and by Engineering Institutional Research. This portion of project involved documentation of proposed Environmental Simulation Laboratory facility and proposal development for Laboratory support. One-quarter time commitment (1983-1984).

Principal Investigator: Center for Natural Energy Design project, supported by University Center for Energy Research, Oklahoma State University, via competitive proposal review. Responsible for project direction and supervision of Research Associate and several Research Assistants. Project involved completion of Control Data Corp. initiated investigation of monitored earth shelters and 9-state survey analysis, as well as initiation of Environmental Simulation Laboratory documentation. One-quarter time commitment (1982- 1983).

Principal Author / Co-Author: Oak Ridge National Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy Earth Sheltered Structures Fact Sheet development and preparation. Primary author for "Earth Coupled Cooling" and "Passive Solar Heating" Fact Sheets, co-author for four other Fact Sheets. Oklahoma State University. Commitment of one-quarter time for one semester (1981).

Principal Investigator: Control Data Corporation, Earth Sheltered Residence Energy Monitoring Program. Responsible for selection of two test homes, selection and installation of instrumentation, and preliminary data analysis for one-year thermal monitoring effort. Oklahoma State University. One-eighth time commitment (1980-1981),

Project Investigator: Control Data Corporation, Earth Sheltered Housing Programs. Three separate projects including an eight-state survey of earth sheltered homes and comparable above ground homes, preliminary development of comfort standards and design tools for earth sheltered buildings that could be incorporated into the CDC Plato learning system, and establishment of an earth sheltered building data base. Oklahoma State University. One-quarter time commitment (1980-1981).

Project Investigator: Presidential Challenge Grant program on Earth Sheltered Structures, supported by Office of the President, Oklahoma State University, via a competitive proposal review. Primary author of proposal. Project involved questionnaire development, data collection, and data analysis regarding earth sheltered homes in the state of Oklahoma. One-quarter time commitment (1979-1980).

Miscellaneous: occasional support from Engineering Institutional Research funds (Oklahoma State University) for proposal development and project continuation.
